18 maj firas den internationella museidagen, International Museum Day, på många platser runt om i världen. Varje år sedan 1977 organiseras mängder av event och aktiviteter på museer runt om i hela världen kring den 18 maj för att öka medvetenheten om hur betydelsefulla museerna är för samhällsutvecklingen. ICOM (International Council of Museums) utser museidagens tema varje år och 2017 är temat Museer och omstridda historier:Att säga det onämnbara på museer.
Förra året deltog mer än 35 000 museer med aktiviteter i 145 länder.
